Friesian Legends

Our horses are raised in a single large herd on 160 acres, living a life as close to natural as the space will allow. We pasture breed our horses with the mares and stallion sequestered on 2 acres. Foals are born on the main field with the herd and fillies are removed only for a brief time as six months for weaning. The colts are put out into a 10 acre sharing a fence with the main field after weaning, so they can still be near the herd. At one year, the young stallions join groups of 4-6 stallions in 2-4 acre pens. The herd is regularly passed by to maintain contact. We believe this "natural" upbringing makes a calmer and more confident horse. We also regularly expose them to loud noises such as shooting, mowing, and ranch work to further embolden them. Combined with regular contact with humans, they grow to be completely at ease horses that are never jumpy under pressure, nervous under new circumstances, or worried about a person riding on their back.
